What to Look for When Hiring a Contractor
Liability Insurance
A professional contractor will have insurance coverage, particularly liability and workers’ compensation.
Otherwise, you could be held liable for damages to your property that they caused as well as for personal injury to the contractor.
WSIB Coverage
WSIB stands for Workplace Safety & Insurance Board. Make sure your contractor carry’s full WSIB coverage.
If a worker gets injured on your property and the contractor doesn’t carry a full WSIB coverage, you could be held liable for all injuries.
Warranties for your job
There are workmanship warranties which are provided by the contractor and typically run from 1 year to 10 years. This warranty covers the installation.
There will also be a material warranty which is offered by the manufacturer of the products and those warranties vary depending on the products being installed.
Get the Contract in Writing
Ask for a written contract with the total estimated cost for your project. Including materials, labor, dump costs and any extra’s for unforeseen issues.
